BIOGRAPHY
Since
starting her singing career in late 2003, Ehrael Rivers has been featured at
a number of Washington, DC area venues. Her four and a half octave range
along with her creative ability to sing a variety of genres like Jazz, R&B,
Neo-Soul, and Gospel has won her instant acclaim. In July 2004, she made
her first headline performance at the world renowned Blues Alley Jazz and
Supper Club in Washington, DC.
A native
of Florida, she began singing in the children’s choir at the church where
her father pastored when she was five years old. She was selected to sing
in honor choirs and all-state choirs throughout her middle and high school
years. Ehrael also studied the violin and viola during elementary school
and was selected to perform in a county honor orchestra for students in 4th-6th
grades. She studied piano until she graduated from high school and mastered
such difficult pieces as Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, however singing was
her greatest passion. At the age of 13, Ehrael began classical training
under the tutelage of Dr. Gail Robinson-Oturo at Bethune-Cookman University,
where she studied for three years.
Ehrael
matriculated at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA where she earned a BA degree
in Psychology and sang with the glee club and the jazz ensemble. It was
here that Ms. Rivers was introduced to jazz and had her first recording
experience, with two solos on the Elegance With Soul CD in 1995. She had
the opportunity to tour the United States with both groups. During her
college career, she was selected to sing in choruses behind such renowned
artists as, opera diva, Jessye Norman. In 1994 she was selected to sing in a
choir that backed Natalie Cole when she sang the National Anthem for Super
Bowl XXVIII in Atlanta.
Ehrael moved to Washington, DC where she earned her Master of Social
Work degree with distinction from Howard University. She joined the
Metropolitan Baptist Church, where the music ministry recorded a CD in
2001. She was a member of the Praz Unlimited gospel ensemble, which
provided background vocals for, DC area gospel artist, Dr. Diane White. In
addition to performing in the DC Metro area, she has also taken the stage in
Delaware, Florida, Las Vegas and Connecticut. Ehrael recently began singing
lead and background vocals with, international recording artist William
DeVaughn, and is signed to his Mighty Two Diamond record
label. She also sings lead and background vocals with the Union Street
Band. Ehrael is a member of the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA),
and the Prince George’s Black Chamber of Commerce.
